Meet the Doctor

Dr. Chawan Rasheed

Dr. Chawan Rasheed is a native Memphian who earned Doctor of Optometry degree at SCO at the start of the 2020 COVID pandemic in Memphis, TN. She completed a one-year postgraduate residency in Cornea and Specialty Contact Lens/Refractive Surgery at SCO and Eye Specialty Group in 2020-2021.

Her excitement for academia encouraged Dr. Rasheed to remain at SCO after residency to join faculty supervising student clinicians in the Adult Primary Care, Contact Lens, and Nursing Home/Assisted Living departments. Aside from the joy she has when fitting a variety of corneal pathologies with specialty lenses, she is also greatly passionate about educating her patients on overall health and its impacts on ocular health, including hypertension and diabetes.

Dr. Rasheed has participated in 3 service trips to Mexico, Ecuador, and Belize. Her dedication for education has resulted in presenting multiple Continuing Education lectures to colleagues the past two years. She is currently a member of the American Optometric Association and the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians. She moved to Michigan after getting married in January 2024 and has been excited to bring her knowledge and passion to a new state! Outside of optometry, she enjoys outdoor walks and hikes, visiting gardens, caring for her various plants, and trying new restaurants!

Service Work

Dr. Rasheed enjoys participating in a variety of service opportunities, both locally and internationally. She has volunteered in Special Olympics, community RAM trips, and at food distribution centers. She has also helped improve access to eye care by providing exams in underserved communities located in Mexico, Ecuador, and Belize.
